About a 2-3% acceptance rate.

DC applying to Brown PLME as a potential option. Don't expect to get in and may not attend even if they can get in
Should be very competitive in terms of acceptance rate (2-3%). But may not be the same pool of applicants of HYPSM.

PLME is basically the top of the applicant pool of every elite school combined. They have a good choice of who to accept.

VCU has under a 5% acceptance rate. One thing they do mention is the average accepted applicant has 450 hours of healthcare-related experience.

It's a way of seeing if the kid is genuinely interested in a medical career and has an idea of the commitment they are making.

It’s a way of seeing if a kid has a doctor parent or family friend. Those hours are nearly impossible without connections

This is crazy. How do you get these hours?

Kid just got in premed at a T25 but not a joint program. Decided not to do that.

He shadowed a family friend and one of our doctors. Soph/Junior year
He worked at a hospital in one of their summer volunteer programs. between junior and senior Applied for a ton of them - it was very selective but I do think it shows volunteering + interest in medicine.
Took AP Chem, Bio and Physics
Zero research or any mention of research

I have a Brown Pre-Med (denied PLME). I don’t get impression it’s doctor’s kids, strikes me as a curated group much like college admissions classes. The PLME are not necessarily the standouts in the class. Clearly very bright and capable, I think it was their stories.

BSMD is more competitive than top 20 colleges and most of the more prestigious programs have been discontinued in recent years, with more likely following. PLME at Brown is the most competitive.

Just go to a reputable institution and earn a high GPA. Get involved in pre-med activities and prepare for the MCAT.

The average SAT score for the Penn State - Thomas Jefferson U program was 1570 last year. The lowest score to get an interview was 1510.

Or go to medical school abroad for the fraction of the money.
