| Still in the early stages... How is competitiveness compared to top 20? |
| Even at not super competitive schools, the BS/MD programs are super competitive. For example, Pitt has a 50% ish acceptance rate but BS-MD acceptance rate is around 6%. Almost all are single digit and some are as low as 2-3%. |
| It’s been a nightmare. Very nerve-racking and taxing process for DS, but we know he has the stats for it. |
| Thank you. In addition to stats, what else makes for strong candidate? Did your kids do shadowing, volunteer at a hospital? |
Yes. |
Yep, shadowed, volunteered, and did research. |
| At what point in HS did your kids apply to shadow, volunteer and research? Are there official programs or they did this informally? We have family members who practice medicine abroad and DC could probably shadow there. Would this count? |
|
Thank you!
|
| How to get involved and get a research going? |
| Also, how many programs did your kids apply to? I assume they also applied to regular college programs? |
Yes. True. A college counselor |
And at least historically they've emphasized diversity in selections. |
| Ho is GWU? |
Very low percentages, many prioritize in-state, and absolutely seems like diversity is emphasized within that mini class of students just like college admissions. |
Family is in Texas so won’t be as helpful. Our city has a formal research (actual research) program with one of the leading hospitals in the state. Students have a really good track record getting into BS/MD as their recs are written by well known doctors. |
