The money is better in Tokyo or Paris or (if she’s into the characters) DCL.
We like Disneyland because the weather is better, flights are similarly priced, and we have family that gets discounted tickets. Orlando has never appealed. |
Disneyland Paris is amazing. To us, there was something special about having all of the announcements and shows spoken in French first. Also, it seemed to us that the parks were better taken care of. Magic Kingdom in Florida is pretty beat-up, especially Fantasyland and Tomorrowland. |
Personal preference.
We visited Disneyland once. Not worth even half of what it cost. We will not ever go to any Disney thing in future. |
The entry tickets are cheaper if you get them as part of a package with a Disney resort hotel. Also don't do park hopper, just pick one park a day (there's plenty to do). A resort hotel = easier to get to the park too. |
Disney is super polarizing on this thread. I think it’s hard to say whether it’s worth it because it’s a product that has different values to different people (not like buying a coffee maker, for instance).
In some ways, it is a unique product and so is hard to put a market value on. The price of flying through the air like a bird? Or walking onto the Millenium Falcon? There’s a few different ways to do disney that have different price points attached to them which also makes it hard to answer. PP is correct that all travel has increased a lot. One thing about disney that constantly amazes me is that they are doing constant upgrades and innovations — if you are interested in set design, engineering, world building, landscaping, there is no place like it in the world. We’ve had tours where they point out small thoughtful details that most people don’t notice but that really affect the atmosphere. Animal Kingdom is effectively one of the best zoos in the world (in addition to a cutting edge facility for research into and treatment of many species), and even the aquarium at Epcot is one of the largest in the world. We got to a lot of amusement parks because my kids are roller coaster fiends, and given the difference in safety and world building in disney versus those other parks, I’m actually surprised Disney doesn’t cost more. Pretty much every year recently they open a new ride or world…. That does have a price tag. |
Disneyland Paris is amazing. The convenience of staying on site is incredible. But I think PPs are right that Disney World is great at the attention to detail. The ticket prices seem exorbitant but Universal or even Busch Gardens isn't very different. Stay on site. Plan your day to avoid crowds. It'll be a really fun time. Especially if you have teens. I could drag them to any park, but after a day of Disney they're contemplating buying ears. It's just different and an excuse to buy into the experience. |
+1, people who complain about Disney being expensive don’t ski. We did Disneyland this summer as part of CA trip. I liked it so much better than WDW. |
M kids are now young adults and we never vacationed at Disney. We took them to Europe. |
Same. And national parks. They can take themselves now if they feel the need, but they haven't. We took them to Legoland back in the day. |
I love the people responding to “is Disney World too expensive?” With “just fly to Japan or France— Disney is cheaper there!” 🙄
OP, it’s a personal choice whether it’s worth it. We tacked one day at Disneyland on to a national park trip to CA. Our teen & tween had never been to anything Disney. We researched, planned our day, stayed at the park all 16 hrs it was open & all had a lot of fun. But my kids could also have a perfectly happy childhood never visiting Disney, of course. |
I didn’t do it with my kids, who are now about to graduate. I have regretted many things in my life, but not spending a fortune on an ersatz saccharine mouse-based vacation is not one of them. We had great trips to Thailand, Morocco, Italy etc instead. As for adults who go without children, well, they are beyond redemption. |
It doesn't have to be one or the other. My kids have been to Disney, and Europe, and many National Parks. |
That's how I grew up. I never went to Disney yet I take my kids there. And we do the other vacations also. It's just a weekend trip, what's the big deal? |
Tokyo Disney is what Disney used to be. It is the only Disney park that is actually not run or operated by Disney. Instead, it is owned and operated Japanese company that runs its own railway line to the park.
In Japan, hidden fees are not a thing and efficiency, line management, details, and customer service are important. |
Disney, the lines, the lame rides, the crowds, the extremely expensive food has NEVER been worth it. |
