The answer is right there in front of us: the id system is flawed is the correct answer.

Advice from an ECNL parent.Figure out what your end game is.If it's national team then sure worry about this stuff.If it is to help your kid get into a better school then they would have without soccer then lose no sleep.Plenty of high academic D3 schools that are tough admits that would love to have your player.

The iD2 camp is for 2011s. ECNL St Louis is high school (2010s and up). Also last year there was an iD2 camp for the DMV area and several DMV girls were invited. That didn’t seem to happen this year - it’s straight to regionals which is most of the east coast.

ID2 is a marketing program. It's not a pathway to anything. Its not the top tier. Look at the history of the kids that went in the past. Most never made it to D1 - and if they did they were super low level.

ID2, USCS, ECNL, all the same stuff under different names, nothing tied to US Soccer itself other than an opportunity to play in front of US Soccer scouts.

ID2 is just another internal marketing thing from USCS/ECNL

VDA posted they have 3 going to ID2 camp.

for the ID2 camp, the players must be nominated by a Director of Coaching. So I am sure some is politics and some is deserved. If selected for next round they play internationally in March/April

The Arlington 2011s are going to Florida to play for the programs 2010s in Super Y finals since that team is in St. Louis
