FCPS recognizes the old "STEM" has been diversified / corrected to "STEAM" and the "A" is for Arts. And Arts include musical arts, such as violin. Why shouldn't OP's child be admitted into the Advanced Academic Program on the basis of her artistic abietites? It is one of the considerations on FCPS's new "HOPE" rating sheet. |
sorry, "abilities" |
Every time you post about STEAM, you fail to make sense. It's incredibly unclear what you are trying to say, except we all get you think the arts should matter for AAP. But since there are no competitive admission middle schools in FCPS, very few kids apply for 7th grade AAP, and TJ is the only competitive high school FCPS kids can apply to, I'm not sure how your post related. Unless you think OP was referring to AAP for 7th in this case? Which I don't think they were. I still maintain this belongs in the private school forum. |
Op, my DS is a year older and in a similar role. He did pick viola for school this year but that's resulted in him deciding violin is still his first choice. Violin is very competitive and from what I've seen in his youth orchestra, cello is competitive too.
This has nothing to do with school applications btw. If anything it would make it harder applying to privates because not all privates even have a school orchestra or band. |
Ah, thanks for the clarification PP. OP this is in entirely the wrong forum. You want Tween and Teens where you can ask about the difficulty of getting into advanced music programs outside of school. |
