Stacey Abrams had written at least two law thriller novels. (Less set in Big Law and more in the world of federal courts.)

Stephen Carter and the Emporer of Ocean Park series

Big Law, by Lindsay Cameron

+1. I liked this, and also the author’s next one, which is more of a thriller.

PP again. Also recently reread The Undomestic Goddess, by Sophie Kinsella, who is one of my all time favorite authors. It’s more humorous fluff than thriller, but the main character is a corporate lawyer.

DP I really enjoyed that book! Even though it is more fluffy, it's a book that has stayed with me, unlike many books I read and can't tell you five minutes later what happened and why.

OP here - Thanks for the recommendation! Fluffier than I originally had in mind, but I liked it and I’m guessing it’ll stick with me, too.

Also, I just finished The President’s Lawyer, by Lawrence Robbins. I think someone mentioned on a different thread. It’s a criminal courtroom thriller - not a corporate law novel - but with extra layers. I highly recommend it!

Anonymous wrote:Thanks, everyone. I’m listening to Clean Hands, by Patrick Hoffman, and it’s pretty awful. The description suggested BigLaw intrigue, but it’s all over the place and some of the writing is excruciating.

I liked The Boys’ Club, by Erika Katz, better. Also enjoyed Partner Track on Netflix. (Super soapy but perfect for bingewatching when I was sick in bed for weekend!)

Would love more recommendations! I know there a bunch of BigLaw lawyers-turned-novelists out there!

This one is based on a blog the author wrote while working at an actual Big Law firm: https://www.amazon.com/Lawyer-Novel-Jeremy-Blachman/dp/0312425554

The blog was active when I was in law school and I remember reading it. I think the blog was better than the book but it's been a while since I read either.

Thanks!

Came here to rec this. Back in the day, ATL was like an episodic book about BL. Now it’s Fishbowl.

OP, if you're still checking, read The Underwriting! It is the story of an IPO from the bankers' perspective but wildly entertaining and similar to The Boys' Club that you liked.

Anonymous wrote:I took a class in law school called law & literature. We read:

Bartleby the Scrivener: A Story of Wall Street (you should def read this one if you haven’t yet)
The bleak house
The stranger
Billy budd
The trial

I can’t remember off hand what else we read but I’ll come back if I can think of it. There’s a chance we read some other books like to kill a mockingbird that I am not associating with the class because I had also read them before the class.

I haven’t read a book by Scott Turow but it’s on my list. And not a novel - but Gideon’s Trumpst is a great book if you haven’t read it.

If you want chick lit, you could read something borrowed

Bartleby is so good.

Julie James is a lawyer turned romance author. Most of her lawyers are prosecutors, but a few feature lawyers in private practice.

I think the most big law type setting is in Practice Makes Perfect.

These look great, too. Nice to try something lighter and more fun. Thanks!

Yes, but most of them are terrible.
