Maryland Senators want their DC land back

This is about the MD delegation getting something, anything, to save face over losing the washington football team to washington.

I think they did it because Trump will just put more fighter jets in DC.

Moore has demonstrated pretty clearly that despite his charm and good looks, he kinda sucks at being a chief executive in charge of a state budget.

+1000. Moore has been in over his head since day one.

The jets weren’t even in DC to begin with. DCs air national guard squadron flew out of Andrews.

The state of Maryland would prefer a new Key Bridge. Instead they get us some old fighter jets that no one cares about.

Maryland got full funding for the Key bridge AND the fighter squadron.

Ahem.

Great, just what we need, more air traffic over the area.

It will be nice to have something on that site though.

It won't be more air traffic -- they're shifting the existing wing, which is based at Andrews, from D.C. to Maryland.

Personally, I'm opposed to spending any public money on stadiums for billionaires, so I hope they do literally anything else on the site than build a Commanders stadium (and I say that as a lifelong fan of the team who used to go to games at RFK). A new stadium paid for by the team owners would be way better than an empty decrepit stadium no one uses, though. (I also realize the city will pay for it, not the team owners.) But I hope they at least don't have to tear up the new youth soccer fields they built there in the last decade...

They should have asked for full funding for the American Legion Bridge too while they were at it. Seems like a missed opportunity. Unless of course they do not actually want to rebuild the American Legion Bridge.

The Key Bridge was an easier sell because Biden had already promised the feds would pay the full cost of replacing it. And also because the reason it needed replacing was someone smashed a boat into it, not just that it was old...

I feel the same way. I wish we could have more facilities for our city rather than those eyesore parking lots, but my opinion has been over-ridden this time. I'm out of step with most people when it comes to sports, though, and having the Nationals stadium in Navy Yard really has been a good thing.

Then they are bad negotiators. All they asked for was to reinstate MD’s air national guard that DoD proposed to eliminate and confirm funding for a bridge that was already promised. Maryland has the most inept Senators. Warner and Kaine would have negotiated relocating a federal agency HQ to the Northwest stadium site.
