Does your principal ask for donations to the school?

She is running fundraisers as well, also for the benefit of the school, but it's looking like she will be deciding priorities and have oversight. Do you see this at your school? I thought that what she's doing was the job of the PTA. NB: not a title one school.

Blair used to do this. It raised a lot of money that admin needed resources for in order to make up for funds that dried up from the school district. However, it competed with the PTSA and programs that the PTSA used to fund for the school could no longer be funded.

Blair? You mean money for lunches, dinner and travel.

No, if you were dealing with her, you'd know.

Agreed with PP - this is probably a few schools! Name the cluster!

This sounds wild to me!

Teacher here. Please don't forget that there is not enough paper or pencils for classrooms these days...

There is a $20 gift limit for teachers. If parents are so inclined as to buy a holiday gift for teachers (better now, than end-of-year), please consider purchasing a ream of copying paper or packs of pencils for your students' classrooms.

TIA for considering these suggestions.

PTA at least has a transparent budget. Does your principal? My kids have been in two schools in Einstein cluster where principal's have done fundraisers. PTA would always ask to see a school level budget so we could see what is needed. Never willing to share.

Private, independent schools are infamous for this--- I think less so for publics.

We were at a school where the teachers could not ask and we'd have to sneak in supplies via backpacks and stuff.

Why not enough? BOE just went to a $200 a plate breakfast last week. Plenty of cash.

Is this a surprise the BOE would do this while cutting budgets and programs. They all need to go.

Our principal did this two years ago through a fun run. She listed what the money will be used for and she raised a TON.

And this is exactly my problem with this type of fundraising. If you can’t show the school level budget or at least the Independent Activity Fund (IAF) budget and expenditures plus the district audit of the same then you don’t get my funds.
