FCV BOYS

The problem with FCV is the North/South thing. If you are closer to one than the other, your kid is either possibly stuck on a team that isn't right for them or you are driving a long way to get to practices. For my kid's age group one team is noticeably stronger than the other even though both are supposedly pre-academy. The stronger one is too long of a drive on a regular basis. Apparently they combine North/South at the older ages. Not sure how you combine players from areas spanning from Springfield to Loudoun into one team. Sounds like a pain.

My son plays on their pre travel academy and played in that tournament. I'm not sure which team you saw but his team is U8 with all but 2 kids playing 1 or 2 up. They went 3-1-3. Future is bright.

Future may be bright for the kids but not the team. As they get older the best kids will leave FCV for other clubs in MLSN and ECNL.

And of course it is also impossible to predict at U8 which players will be good as teenagers. The european academies have poured a ton of science into predicting and still haven’t figured it out, so I guarantee you can’t tell how these 8 year olds will be in a few years. Boys change so much. Just enjoy it while it lasts and don’t get caught up in delusions of grandeur.

For what it's worth, my son is of pre travel age so I'm more interested in the coaches ability to develop and for the programs trajectory rather than the current standings and records.

I like the facilities ability to house practices indoor year round.

Your kid will never use the indoor facility except if you pay extra for futsal.

So is the 2015B middle team (Black?) lots of potential and a good coach.

These have to be AB posting. What does good even mean for 9 year old boys?

Nope. Not AB. He actually really irritates me. I'm no soccer expert but I mean the coach is firm but fair. Works on developing their knowledge of the game, positions, teamwork, fundamentals. The kids have improved.

What is AB?
Even at 9 years old, kids need to play and learn. Rec soccer is not enough.

Not true at all. Why do you use definitive language if you do not know for certain? My son has been practicing indoors year round. However, games are a mix of indoor and outdoor. Futsal, of course has its own playing conditions.

We came to STJ this year from another travel program. We have been very happy with our decision to switch and our son's coach is fantastic. They are definitely in a rebuilding phase and I don't think that's the worst thing. A lot of clubs say they are focused on player development and that's rarely the case in my experience with now four local clubs. While they may not be winning as much as some parents are obsessed with, they are learning and improving and learning how to make decisions on the field vs having a coach that just screams at them with no real guidance on what they are screaming about. I have only good things to say and my son's team is far less toxic than where we left.

AB is Adam the director. He has a reputation you can piece together on here.

The two 2015 teams mentioned in this thread are coached by good coaches. Then someone asked me what I meant by good coach and I said firm but fair, teaching them about the game etc.

You brought your kid to 5 clubs and THIS is the one you pick?

The ST James South does have fieldhouse space issues past U12. There are too many competing interests for that field space.

When are the games ever indoor? Didn't think that was allowed.
