And now the original and the best satirical news site, The Onion is coming to our rescue. As we all know, hate and extremism spiked online during the lead up to the presidential election. Trump pardons of Jan. 6 insurrectionists will further spur on America’s far-right extremist movement.

The Onion purchased Alex Jones’ conspiracy theory media company, Infowars and plans to make the site a parody of its former self. The humor will no doubt be taken literally by Trump’s legion of cult followers but the rest of us will know it is dry gallows humor.

I guess The Onion took a hit when real-life headlines became more outlandish than parody.

Yeah, I think that’s right. They then moved into “preachy humor,” maybe because they couldn’t top real life, which just isn’t funny.

The onion used to be hilarious, and they would hit anyone. Like most media institutions, they drifted very far to the left during the last decade.

I agree with PP that the Onion is not as good as it used to be. I am remembering the dead pan Onion of many years ago but was hopeful of they bought info wars it would be deadpan again.

Also agree with some PPs that we on the left probably take ourselves too seriously.
