This, me neither.

Not a vegan, but former vegetarian and I completely agree. All that "fake meat" is disgusting, over processed garbage that I think is terrible for you. I never touched it as a veg and don't get its appeal.

Those products are for omnivores who are looking to decrease or eliminate their meat consumption, not people who don’t miss having meat in their diets.

Actually, the person I am thinking of who doesn’t eat meat would really like this. They typically eat the fake Turkey log from Trader Joe’s. I thought something homemade would taste better. Lots of vegans I know enjoy this type of thing.

I would not. I don’t eat fake meats.

I disagree with PPs. Many vegetarians eat this products and are, of course, their target market. What I find less appealing as a vegetarian are the fake meats with the fake blood that try to recreate the texture of meat.

I am a vegetarian and my grocery store has the thing where you get a free turkey if you spend X amount of money, but lets you opt for a Tofurkey instead. When I qualify I get one. I can take it or leave it, but I try to put a nice rub on it and roast it with vegetables and potatoes, and it's perfectly fine.

If this person has a certain brand of fake Turkey they like, I suggest you buy that one and then if you want to show off your cooking skills, make some interesting sides. Making your own fake meat at home with vital wheat gluten and stuff is doable but tricky.

I like occasional fake meat as convenience food, but not for a nice home cooked meal kind of feel.

The mushroom Wellington is good but not sure it’s as good as the many steps that go into making it (I do like to cook). I think this year I might do a modified version of that into hand pies. A mushroom and caramelized onion type thing.

I also just really prefer all the sides and appreciate it when they’re vegeterianized when possible (veg stock in the stuffing, etc)

I honestly love a good veggie chopped liver. I’m veg and my carnivore husband loves it too. He doesn’t like actual liver.

It’s not about trying to taste like liver - think of it just as a hearty mushroom spread on its own.
