Political Discussion
| He wasn't bluffing last time, and look what happened. |
I'm wealthy enough to survive it. Bring. It. On. |
Are you watching the market? |
| There will be some tariffs, yes. |
|
The fact that most people don’t seem to understand the basic economic principles of tariffs is depressing. Why you impose a tariff and what a government does with a collected tariff can be political but the principle of a tariff is not.
A tariff, by definition, IS a tax. Tariff = tax. A tariff increases the cost of a good and decreases the profit margin of the company. In a capitalist society like ours, a company is not going to “take one for the team” and eat that loss. Just like with any increase in cost, the cost of the tariff will cause the price of the good to increase and thus the consumer will ultimately pay a higher price as that increase is passed down to the purchaser. |
| I don’t think he’d want to damage all his buddies’ businesses. Same with deportations. Maybe we’ll get some token stuff here and there to fulfill the promises, but not across the board. |
| Make any big purchases now! |
He did it last time, so why would he not this time? |
He did do it in his first term and it did not result in an increase in American jobs. |
This sounds a lot more widespread than last time, like he’s trying to make systemic changes. Last time it seemed like he was just being selectively punitive. |
Except they are removing the tax incentive for EV's. |

Tariffs allow the president-elect to pick winners and losers for direct bribes.
A product from this country give Trump a half billion dollars...no tariff. A product from that company pays Trump in stock, no tariff. |
| You voted for him. Isn't it what you wanted him to do? You scared now? |
|
Some tariffs will get levied, but it’s largely a verbal threat to China to get inline with his way.
Same with all the PE (private equity) co’s offshoring manufacturing. |
It does nothing but force higher prices for consumers. China doesn't give a crap about that. |
