DP. To PP: And we all hope you're not passing your indifference to your kids.

I stand by my reply.
Op asked if an elementary school has
“…armed police on site all day? Do a couple of armed officers walk around the building while school is in session?”

You’re not going tell me that OP doesn’t have some kind of mental health issue whether it’s anxiety or something worse. Those are not reasonable scenarios to be asking about an elementary school.

And my pointing that out doesn’t make me indifferent. I don’t know where you pulled that out of.

Really hoping this is a troll post.

Yep must be one huge ass troll

All MCPS schools have the same security standards -- no one can just come in. They have to be buzzed into the vestibule then go straight into the office. Not sure what stops someone from starting a crime in the office, but .... I doubt a private school could do any better.

Visit and decide for yourself?

PS, private schools don't have what you are looking for either

I hope everyone criticizing OP realizes that there was a school shooter arrested earlier this year for writing a manifesto about wanting to shoot up an MCPS elementary school. There is absolutely no reason to not have armed school resource officers in elementary schools. These kids get excited when they see police officers.

Our "high rated" elementary school doesn't even have cell service. If someone has a health emergency, the teacher needs to go outside to call 911. Elementary schools are absolutely neglected, safety-wise, at MCPS. The BOE is well aware of the gaps and are choosing to do nothing.

I wish parents would not give out information on MCPS entry policies and weaknesses in security on an anonymous forum. This person could be a troll but also someone with bad intentions.

It's a matter of public record as people have presented in front of the BOE on the specific weaknesses over and over. No secrets here.

I would 1000% rather have an extra teacher than a security guard at our elementary school.

It will be interesting to see how Taylor's first operating budget addresses this.

Probably why many teachers around the country opt to arm themselves. Our kids shouldn't need to be sitting ducks to be able to learn.

They have the front office staff unlock doors after viewing person on camera. You must enter office first although you could then easily access the school. Not any safer or less safe than other schools I assume.

No school is safe. Republicans value guns more than our kids. Let’s be real. The next four years will be worse.

Rosemary Hills isn’t the best but it’s fine. Principal is ok but I haven’t had much interaction.

Last week we were notified at 3:35 that four buses would not run and kids needed to be picked up. After scrambling to get there (only because another parent told me about this), I was told our bus would make some stops but not all. It’s a mess. Takes about an hour to get home on a good day. Takes me 12 minutes so 60 minutes is too long. That’s MCPS Transportation though not RHES. Principal offered no explanation or info but often MCPS ties their hands.

Middle and high schools are trying to ban phones. Yes they are disruptive at times but they save lives during shootings. You WILL have lockdowns at mcps and once you get the “I am hiding in a closet and I love you” text, you will fight to keep cell phones in school. If you join MCPS, keep cell phones in mind as part of the security plan (not for for k-2 obviously).

Or we could vote for responsible representatives who don’t cave to the NRA.

Stop spreading misinformation. No one is trying to BAN phones. Geezus. Students can bring phones. They will simply be asked to store it away in a pocket pouch, in their own pouch/binder during class time, and will get it back before they leave a class. For some reason if a phone is seen out, teacher or staff can take it away and student can pick up the phone at front office. It's simple, parent your kid and it'll be fine
