When do Cogat scores come back?

Anonymous
I overheard people at kiss&ride saying that the cogat score should be out any day now. Not sure if they said so because we have 2 more weeks until the referral deadline or if there’s some info that I am not aware of. Anyone knows anything about cogat score being released soon?

How does a parent know if they even want to apply without the score though?

If it's not clear your kid needs AAP without the CogAt score they probably don't need AAP.

If you don't want to do the work for the packet you can just roll the dice on being in pool

Even if you're in pool, doing the packet is very helpful. It allows you to present your case that your child requires advanced academics. Otherwise you don't get to make that case and rely on the teacher and AART making it for you.

Can you please explain what being in the pool means? Private parent learning. I thought the only way to get into an AAP program is to go to school that offers and complete the AAP process. Asking for FCPS middle school.

Most of the info is here:
https://www.fcps.edu/academics/academic-overview/advanced-academic-programs

In-pool = universal screener = kid scored well enough that they are basically going to submit a referral packet on your student's behalf. You can choose to supplement with your own referral, or just let the school handle it. This only applies to students who have been in FCPS since sometime prior to Jan 1 2024. The other cases are also detailed in the linked page.

Our AART says always do the parent portion. Why should the kids whose parents chose to refer get all that extra perspective on the child's academic needs provided by parents when the ones who test well and are in-pool don't? If at all possible, do the parent packet - all of it.

Every year there are in-pool parents of kids with sky high scores posting here saying their child did not get in and the parents are super disappointed when they request the packet and see the mediocre teacher form and work samples.

The referrals are due next week. Don’t they need the cogat score for the packets?

We should get them before next week?

Who are they? The school needs cogat before the referral deadline?

Packets aren't assembled by the schools until after parent referrals are due. Don't expect scores more than a day or two before the referral due date. As a dp said above, our AART said everyone who is interested should put together a parental referral.

So in pool letters are the same time as receiving the cogat score?

Is this letter mailed?
Anonymous
In pool letters are not the same as receiving the cogat score. The In-Pool letters are emailed and just lets you know that your child's cogat score was in pool. If your child is not in pool then you will not get an email. The actual cogat score will be posted on sis.

Wouldn’t the cogat score be available earlier?

I know in pool status varies from school to school and uses both NNAT and Cogat. Calculating the in pool score and generating this letter and mailing/emailing would require some human effort.

Did in-pool notifications come out yet?

I don’t think we are getting it today

Last year even with the testing glitch which caused delay of testing for 3 weeks, results still came out before 12/15.

I think they are deliberately holding them at this point. Really lame!!!
