NP. Thanks for the post, OP. The comment about how it gets easier after 5 days made me try a sugar break for 5 days. I actually did really well overall, even when I had to make cookies for DC’s school event. Every time I thought about eating sugar, I just told myself, “no sugar today,” and moved on. I didn’t restrict anything else. Tonight was the first time I had a bit of a craving, but I got through it.

Now that the 5 days are up, I’m not sure where to go from here. Maybe go until Thanksgiving? That’s not so long.

Abstinence is best for most people because trying to have a little doesn't allow the body to detox and get over the cravings.

Are you on any meds that might influence your cravings? I wasn’t a big sweet tooth person but when I started ADHD meds, I craved / ate sweets with a ferocity that was unusual for me.

Go for a few weeks and you might never go back! I remember eating a few bites of a sweet dessert after I’d not eaten sugar for a couple of months. My stomach started throbbing and I stopped pretty much immediately. It was so strange.

I’m at 9 days now, and cravings have definitely reduced. I don’t actually feel any different though.

Made it to Thanksgiving with only 1/4 of a cupcake DD made on Monday. Will definitely have pie & ice cream today, and then probably go back to near none. Total abstinence is so much easier than moderation!

OP, how are you doing with candy?
