I hope someone is advocating for him. He is a great choice for a cabinet position.

"Experience, qualifications and knowledge be damned! Down with DEI, Down with LGBTQIABCDEFG! We just want straight whites who look the part, they don't have to actually know anything! MAGA!"

The two of you are the epitome of ignorant aholes. Trump appointed Grenell Acting DNI in his last administration, were you aware? The first openly gay cabinet member, for those of you who looooove to check those boxes. He was also Ambassador to Germany and Special Envoy Serbia/Kosovo. Grow the hell up.

Expect the DEI appointments to be a thing of the past. He has no need for these guys anymore. It was a different story his first term.

That’s the point. Trump (thankfully) doesn’t do DEI. Grenell’s appointments were based on merit. I know that’s a foreign concept to the left, but maybe you’ll get used to it?

Acting.

Another word for Acting? Not actually in the Cabinet.

I don’t think he’d be the worst choice, I just don’t see Trump voters banging down the door for him. Maybe they’ll probe us wrong.

You’re so wrong. He was indeed a Cabinet member. Try again…

On February 20, Richard Grenell was appointed Acting Director of National Intelligence, becoming the first openly gay DNI and cabinet member in American history. Not long ago, these words would have been an impossibility.

Then why is Trump passing him over now?

You do realize there are still plenty of cabinet positions to be filled? Why would you think he’s “passing over him”?

Grenell likely won't get an appointment because we now care more about making statements about being anti-DEI than we do about qualifications. I mean, just look at all of Trump's other candidates so far - all lacking in qualifications. Merit? Maybe it mattered in Trump's first term and yes, Grenell had it, but the current Trump nominees sure don't.

Acting means he was never confirmed by the Senate. He was no more DNI than the parade of Acting SecDef’s were Secretary of Defense.

Maybe he’ll get something in this administration, but again I wouldn’t hold my breath for MAGA to cheer on a gay man. It would be fine to be wrong because he’s not the worst out there.

Acting’s don’t get an oil painting to hang on the wall with the rest of the Senate-confirmed Sec’s at HQ. They live on in Wikipedia…but that’s it. Once they are gone it’s as if they never existed.

I disagree. And I think Grenell will play a part in this administration. It’s early days.

His main government experience prior to be appointed Ambassador to Germany (the Germans hated him, BTW) was as the spokesperson for the US Rep to the UN. Before and after that he was a political operative for the GOP.

I'm not going to pretend that this doesn't happen often no matter which party is in power, but merit is a big stretch here.

And honestly there were So Many Acting __________ under Trump. Defense, AG, etc.

He won’t be first even if he is tapped by Trump, because Buttigieg. But that shouldn’t deter Trump. There’s a lot of Ambassador jobs that need filling.

I am officially pissed that Pete Hegseth is Secretary of Defense and Ric Grenell doesn’t have a spot yet. He was dedicated when no one was. He is qualified and tbe administration needs to reach out to LGBTQ.

And again:

He served as Acting Director of National Intelligence (DNI) under President Donald Trump in 2020, becoming the first openly gay holder of a cabinet level position in the history of the United States.[3]
