Recommend a suburb?

Not Long Island!

How often will your dh have to go to the office? If everyday, I’d recommend a town with a train into Penn Station vs GC for Hudson yards. It will make a big difference in his commute.

Scarsdale is what you’re looking for. CT is way too far for that commute if you ever want to see your husband.

Old Greenwich checks all of your boxes. Adorable and very walkable, great train station, easy bike ride to the beach, top rated public school, and Hudson Yards is an easy hop from GCT on the 7. While I am not Jewish and there is probably not as strong of a Jewish community/presence as Scarsdale or parts of NJ/LI, we have many, many observant Jewish friends here and are all seem happy. The town puts up a menorah and the kids learn Hannukah songs at school for the winter pageant

Another vote for NJ. I know you said you didn’t want it but it will be so much better for your DH’s commute. Besides Ridgewood and Summit (which are both great), I would look at the Radburn section of Fair Lawn.

Before commiting to NJ, look in depth into the issues with Nj transit- it has been horrible this fall and riddled with constant delays and interruptions. I’d want some kind of assurance that service is getting better before buying on affected lines

+ 1 for Westfield and Summit; Hoboken or Glen Ridge closer in; Bedminster further out.

our personal shortlist is:
bronxville (love)
scarsdale
rye
greenwich
new canaan (love)
Armonk possibly.

darien is not the nicest, weirdly, and chappaqua is not a great downtown. Mamaroneck is... fine.

Would not live in Bronxville or New Canaan if Jewish

Or Darien

Westfield is not pretty and the commute sucks - no direct train and tons of delays.

For big lots and pristine scenery, go with Chappaqua or Armonk. If DH needs to go in more than 3 days a week check out syoset or garden city.

I think any of the areas mentioned will likely have a larger Jewish population than Maryland/Virgnia (outside of say Pikesville). If commutting into NYC regularly maybe look at Port Washington/Manhasset. Best train line by far for going into NYC. I think the area would feel familiar to someone from Chevy Chase.

All of the towns that you mentioned are very nice. I have friends in Greenwich that love it. they are not super wealthy. All of those towns are going to have wealthy people though. What about Long Island - Garden City.
Ridgewood in NJ is nice or Chatham or Summit.

Also Millburn and Short Hills have higher Jewish populations.

Manhasset is very nice but also very Catholic. Same with Garden City.

New Jersey is so much better than CT. Better towns, better food, better people. Summit, Short Hills, Glen Ridge, Madison. Great school and more varied housing stock.
