Is SJCHS Easier Than Gonzaga For 9th Admissions?

SJC has a more open, relaxed lifestyle than Gonzaga and that's partially due to the co-ed education. While Gonzaga is not known as an academic pressure cooker, SJC has a reputation of being basically like a public school in regards to how lax it is.

This is not true. My friends at Gonzaga's kids have no homework, while my kid is swimming in it at SJC. So stop trying to act like Gonzaga is superior.

The Homework load is variable at both schools. Depends very much on the teachers and the class level (reg, Honors, AP).

We have one in SJC and one in public. SJC is most definitely not lax. The retake and late policy in public is WAY more generous. Not sure about GZ.

Your friends kids at Gonzaga probably do have homework. There are less intense tracks with less homework and I guess kids who chose not to do homework, but to say Gonzaga kids have no homework is very misleading.

+1. I have a DS at Gonzaga and he definitely has homework, as do all of the boys we know there.

The Gonzaga parent was the one saying that SJC does not have homework. Not sure who the insecure Gonzaga parent is on here who keeps trashing SJC. If you love your school great, stop trashing other schools just because they are more diverse and have more kids of color.

You were doing fine until you felt the need to do exactly what you were accusing the other poster of doing. Both schools are great, why can't it just be left at that.

We don't know why it can't be left at that. Ask the parent(s) who keep trying to find something wrong with SJC despite plenty of folks applying to it every year and plenty of kids graduating with great experiences and going on to lead great lives.

Yeah, but this number is misleading because of the high amount of earmarked seats for Catholic feeder schools, legacies, recruited athletes, etc. Gonzaga is often the very first choice for DMV Catholic families.

If you aren't in one of these groups, my guess is that your odds are around 20%

But isn’t each Gonzaga class made up of twice as many boys as SJC? It would seem it is easier to get into Gonzaga than SJC just from a numbers perspective.

That's not the way it works.

Because of Gonzaga's location, the access afforded by the Metro and it's uniqueness (all boys, Jesuit, etc) it attracts a large number of applicants from all over.

St John's is not all that different from O'Connell, Good Counsel, Paul VI, and Ireton so there's little reason for people from these areas to want to go to SJC.

Gonzaga has the best admission rate to Boston College if that matters to anyone.

You aren’t particularly familiar with who goes to St. John’s. Is your take on GZ off as well?

Is there a reason you are fighting this fight rather than recognizing both are good schools and work for all kinds of students?

Isn’t Prep Jesuit all-boys too?

I have a kid in *only* regular levels at SJC. No honors, no APs. Has two hours of homework a night on average. More if there's a big test.
