I feel like this is not focused conversation. This should be about informing students, parents, communities about the dangers of drugs, crime, etc which MoCo and MCPS have truly been doing. The ex- Medical Director partners with MoCo goes Purple to have sessions at HS, not to mention to offer Narcan training. MCPS has had a focus on mental health and SEL both of which are preventative drug measures. And students are required to take two semesters of health in HS which covers drugs.

Can you provide more information on how you believe mcps or moco has been disclosing the numbers of overdoses and crime statistics. I am 50 years old and we also had drug outreach programs and education. The point of this post was to show that when the board was FORCED to disclose actual, fold hard facts --- that drug problems dropped. Mcps is still dicking around with the items you described above which aren't proven to decrease drug use.

Actually, if people read for comprehension they would see if was not the board disclosing of the number of drug overdoes that decreased anything. It was the drug outeach programs and education that seemed to not be happening enough. The board disclosing numbers doesn't magically fix anything. And the point made above was that MCPS and MoCo have been fully upfront about the fentanyl problem in the county/country/schools and been working to be sure students/families/community is aware and working to prevent.

No they haven't. For example, there was a serious incident that happened at Wheaton High School that hasn't hit the news yet. If parents knew about it, they'd be stunned.

I think the board is transparent but often have been kept in the dark by MCPS central office. What the board is not is demanding enough that MCPS central office be transparent with them and with parents. My thought is the board is transparent but ineffective.

It is absolutely NOT true that MCPS and MoCo have been up front and transparent about drugs and crime in MCPS schools. MoCo/MCPD have been more transparent than MCPS, that's true. But sometimes, MCPD is complicit with MCPS in obfuscating disclosure of serious incidents to school communities.
