Who can guest play for Fairfax Virginia Union?

OP here. How big are the rosters for U14 & U15? DD plays for a large club on the ECNL-RL team and it's impossible to crack into our club's ECNL team. She is considering trying out for FVU in the spring but if DD doesn't make that team, wondering if any RL teams get priority or looks from FVU for guest players or eventual promotion to FVU.

Not really.

Have seen some guest from RL but seemed to be agreed upon before the season started. Not because of improvement during this season and getting a look.

I’m not aware of any U14 girls in NOVA who got promoted from RL to NL last year so I wouldn’t change RL teams for an inside track. I’d only change RL teams if I was going to a better RL team.

Amen.

The worst has to be McLean. 5 years ago a regional powerhouse. Now, living off table scraps…dumped by SYC last year, then a shotgun wedding to form “Union”, aka the last ragtag train to ECNL.

Shame on the clowns who turned that program into a sh*tshow.

The ECNL DOC and his son are part of the problem. Why to have 20+ kids in each team…

Every team is going to games with 6-7 subs, and leaving 4-6 kids back home sitting around, because those kids can’t play with the partner ECNL-RL either, those RL teams already have 6-7 subs as well. The whole thing is a mess.

Imagine after a decade of youth soccer you realize the promise of college eyes at tournaments is a myth except at the top showcases. One last bite at the apple is available with the right donations to those that control rosters or invites to practices where coaches will be present. Some clubs do this above the table with invite showcases at additional cost available to any with a reasonable resume. Some coaches provide this option and profit directly, diluting the eyes on those already large rosters. Reality… Mind yourself. YS is for profit.

Please stop spreading blatant misinformation. On the girls’ side, the 10s and 12s have 17, and the 11s 19. Some of these players are hurt. This is not an issue for half of their teams.

What about the older teams?

Older team rosters are large, which is why I wrote it wasn’t an issue for half the girls. But that’s pretty standard for ECNL, I believe. Ie. Arlington girls roster 26 on their 06/07s, VDA roster 28, Union is 27. I assume part of that is the trapped seniors get added to the regular seniors.

Posters acting like this is a Union-specific problem seem disingenuous. Are they carrying a few extra girls at certain older ages? Yes. But I bet their average roster size across their 6 girls’ teams is within a single player of other ECNL area clubs.

In the boys side FVU has A TON of subs! Look it up in the ECNL website rosters. We’re talking about 22 or more in some of the age groups

Let me guess you are at Arlington and you’re finally over watching kids from other clubs with similar talent get chosen over one of the RL kids.

Normally 17-19 but only 18 can play in league games. Have DD tryout for all teams including the GA teams. Being on a RL won’t give you a priority but you do have the opportunity to be seen more. Reach out to the NL coach and ask if DD can attend practice.

Not at FVU but another local boys ECNL, our teams are between 19 and 23, with injuries and illness, especially as the private school season is ending in the older ages, I wish we had one or two more. Roster of 19 and 2 subs last game. This isn't news to anyone who has been around.

Multiple Arlington RL players have been promoted and played the season with the Arlington ECNL U15 team over each of the past 2 years. Find a different team to hate on.
