V Tech Supplementals

Take them very seriously. VT gives the most consideration to those essays.

Call us paranoid, but my DC is not putting anything into chatgpt

You’re paranoid. 100% your kid uses Grammerly and spell check.

Nope. Not using Grammarly either. I have read so many horror stories and not taking the chance. DC just did it the old-fashion way with 2 sets of eyes to check for grammar/spelling at the end.

While I agree wholeheartedly about avoiding AI, what horror stories have you heard?

Yes! hahaha

Why wouldn't your kid write their own essays?

At this point I don't have any faith in the integrity of essays submitted by students. I suspect that parents, consultants and AI are responsible for a large number of essays now. Paying someone to write the essays just simplifies the process and removes a headache.

Wow. This is precisely the reason essays need to be scanned for AI. My kids all wrote their own essays - no consultants and no AI. We, as parents, certainly didn't write them. Unreal that you assume most people are doing this - but if they are, I hope adcoms are scanning.

This PP didn't use AI. They paid someone else to write the essays and have their kid pass them off as their own.

AI scanners are notoriously unreliable so I would hope they aren't using them. But I think it highly unlikely in the limited time they have for processing apps that they are taking the time to do that. Probably more likely that they may suspect AI based on writing style and either consciously or unconsciously downgrade their assessment.

+1. It worked the first time so probably will work the second time.

Trolls, no doubt. I can't imagine normal parents encouraging their kids to cheat.
