Wouldn't he rather be the star of the JV team and improve by getting significant play time rather than sit on the Varsity bench? He might play the same position as 3-4 returning Varsity seniors. The coach probably needs to find spots for a lot of seniors/juniors and if he is scoring that many points in the fall league, it sounds like the JV group might be very weak. |

Some FCPS HS fall league teams are a combination of 9th and 10th graders - even at the biggest schools, a lot of kids are off doing football and can't do fall league.
So a kid standing out as a 10th grader doesn't necessarily mean that much. The strongest players on our school's fall league team were bench freshman team players last year who are all going to be fighting for bench spots on the JV team. |
| How do tryouts work at your FCPS HS? Teams must be pre set. |
They are not preset, if an amazing player shows up at tryouts, he will make the team. |
| Any experience on the girls side for freshman? Do all schools field a freshman team? |
| Most, if not all, FCPS schools have a girls freshman team, from my experience. |
| Its incredibly easy to make the girls freshman teams. |
That being said, making it from freshman to JV as a sophomore is not easy |
Why is that? Who then makes the JV teams? |
| There was no fall league advertised at Chantilly High School. DS wants to try out for the freshman team. If he is not known to the coaches will this count against him? |
JV is good freshman plus sophomores and juniors who can't make varsity. There are not enough spaces for every girl who ages off the freshman team |
They would have advertised the freshman fall league as they aren't allowed to make cuts off season. Make sure you are signed up for alerts. So he hasn't gone to any off season practices? |
We did not know about any green days or fall league. I actively looked at the Chantilly Chargers site and nothing was mentioned. Is the fall league/green day word of mouth? |
Yes. Was there an "interest meeting" in the fall that he may have missed? Usually they would get names and emails and you would be on the email list. |
|
Its OK if he missed the green days. Kids doing fall sports don't participate either.
If he is a strong player with travel/AAU experience he should have no problem making the freshman team. |
