Think about it, you are there at drop off and pick up and you probably do not see your child's main teacher-most of the teachers in the early morning or late evening are the subs and "floaters" who do not know anything important about your child. I can not tell you how important it is to learn the rules of your child's daycare and to "drop-in" as much as possible. You may be surprised at what you see.

I pop into my day care all the time and I know my child's main teachers very well. There are always main teachers there early and late - they set their schedules to maximize the time. It is preschools that you may not see you teachers bc the teachers are there 9-3 and the kids can be there 8-5.

I check in on DD at our center several times throughout the day and so does my husband... they have cameras in every room and we can watch her online. It's wonderful.

We have been searching for day care centers that have cameras with secure online viewing capabilities. They seem like a rarity in the D.C. area, but I know many of the quality centers in other metropolitan areas have them. If any one knows of any centers with cameras in the D.C. area, please share. Thanks.

I've gotten in touch with a few of the parents in at my Center. So if I stop in - I let them know how their kids are doing (because they always seem to fuss about the child whose parents are there, but ignore the other kids). This way, I can tell the other parents who I know....your kid was in the swing, your kids was in the crib. They do the same for me. It's just a good check system for us.

We're out in Prince William County so I'm not sure if that's convenient for you... but it is great. Just today we got their new 'class' schedule for their music time, circle time, etc... so we know exactly what cameras to watch at what times if we want to see them in their classes.

Keep telling yourself that.

This is why I stay home with my kids. Working moms who send their kids to "school" are just kidding themselves

Happy HC parent here. Just wanted to share that toddlers scream. I could see how this would be annoying outside your window, but it doesn't seem like a case of terrible neglect. Also, I'd be upset if the kids weren't strapped into their stroller. (In fact, DH and I have an ongoing disagreement about the importance of doing this with our baby.) Are you referring to the courtyard of the HC building or somewhere else? Please do post a pic if you have it...

D-E-N-I-A-L.

OP said the stroller with screaming kids was there for 45 minutes while caregivers ignored their charges.

Go ahead, tell yourself whatever you need to.

I guess you don't get out much, do you? Visit a local park sometime.

Do you plan on homeschooling your kids?

There's a huge variation in child care centers. There is also a huge variation in parenting (ie- some parents are busy on their phones while with the kids. Let’s not rush to judge either.

well I'm confused as to what OP is exactly talking about. Are the kids strapped in tje stroller crying and screaming for 45 minutes while they are supposed to be out in the park playing so that the providers don't have to watch them and can text/whatever instead? that's bad.

I didn't post either of these I quoted, but the PP was referring to daycare when she wrote "school". She has a low opinion of daycare, not regular public/private school.
