Preschool and Daycare Discussion
| FYI, and I know everyone loves this daycare program, but my office is very close by and every nice day they PARK the kids strapped in the strollers in the courtyard and SIT THERE for 45 minutes while the kids are screaming their heads off so that the daycare workers can sit and talk and do their text messaging. It is ridiculous to see and I wish someone would tell their supervisors. I have a photo I would post if I just knew how to post on this thing. I assume they are supposed to be walking the kids, but I can verify this is happening. |
| I wouldn't be alarmed if they are parked and happily looking around because everyone (kids and grownups) need a little downtime, but screaming? No good. Truly for 30 minutes, OP? |
| 11:30 here-- my kid is not at Huckleberry, but my friend's child is... hence the concern. |
|
you mean the kids are strapped in the strollers? ugh. we looked at this daycare, but at almost 1800/month, it was not feasible. why dont you email the supervisors?

| where are they located? i used to see these vacant-eyed toddlers strapped into those giant 4 kid strollers just staring off into space being pushed by women on their cell phones. I guess if they took them to a playground and let them out of the stroller they would have to actually watch them. |

To post pics you need to have an online storage site to link back to like flickr or photobucket. Then you type |

| I saw this when I worked downtown, thus it was not on our list. One woman seemed quite impatient with the toddlers and her coworkers did not intervene. Made me sad. |
| Sorry to say that this is not unusual. In some centers directors have banned cell phone use, but who is kidding who? I have seen workers just stop in the park with those commercial strollers and not interact with the toddlers at all. I think the whole thing is really sad, but there is very little one can do. I think that posting the pic is a good idea. |
| I'm not sure that lots of nannies or even a lot of parents are all that much better. HC is sooooo expensive, you think you are getting top of the line care. You can never pop in unexpectedly enough. |
| It is amazing how many parents fall for the care at child care centers. Think about it, you are there at drop off and pick up and you probably do not see your child's main teacher-most of the teachers in the early morning or late evening are the subs and "floaters" who do not know anything important about your child. I can not tell you how important it is to learn the rules of your child's daycare and to "drop-in" as much as possible. You may be surprised at what you see. |
Same here. We toured HC. I saw a DCP getting very short with the toddlers as they walked out. The whole place looked like it needed a good wipe-down (which was a shame, because it's a fairly nice space). Then as we left we walked past the kids playing the courtyard. It hadn't rained, but there was some water, puddles in the courtyard, so the toddlers were running on this wet tile while the providers talked amongst themselves. The location couldn't have been more convenient for me, but it raised way too many red flags. We immediately scratched it off our list. |

Who would ever send their kid to a place that calls itself Huckleberry Cheesecake?
Seriously, the name is such a turn-off I would go the other way based on that alone. |
| You should contact the licensing authorities. You have a photo to prove it. DC is also in a day care center and I would definately want to know if something like this was happening. |
I check in on DD at our center several times throughout the day and so does my husband... they have cameras in every room and we can watch her online. It's wonderful. |
