Please don’t say you’re “ adopting “ a dog if you’re getting a dog from a breeder.
Adopting is for dogs that need homes in shelters, rescue groups, foster homes etc. You want to buy a dog and therein support the mass breeding of puppies for profit. They are not one and the same. |
Generally speaking, it's not a great sign for a breeder to have multiple litters on the ground at the same time. Also, it looks like the sires and dams are all owned by them? For me, that's another red flag, and a sign of someone breeding for $$$ and not for the betterment of the breed. On the good news side, they seem to be health testing their dogs (hard to tell which ones, as OFA has registered names not call names, and their FB page only has call names). OP, Golden Retrievers are prone to a significant number of genetically related health issues that seriously affect their health and well-being including cancer, so do your due diligence on not only health testing, but also longevity of the pedigree. There is a lot of information here: https://grca.org/find-a-golden/ |
Just purchased some items off their Chewy wishlist. 👍 —op |
Whatever happened to respecting people's choices just as you would want them to respect the choices you make? I'm so tired of the holier than thou rescue dog crowd looking down at people who go to reputable breeders, not puppy mills and do all of the proper research and vetting. There are responsible breeders out there who are not the same as puppy mills. Not everyone wants to roll the dice on a "rescue" that may or may not be suited for their family. Many of these dogs are fine, but have behavioral issues or anxiety issues from the stressful situations they were removed from and may not be appropriate for children, elders people, etc. OP, you get the dog that is best for you and your family. |
Own your choices. I adopted my lab from lab rescue. His owner turned him in with a dislocated hip ( unknown how it happened) and didn’t want him anymore. He’s lovely. It’s not holier then though to adopt. It’s the right think to do as a human being when shelters are full of dogs needing humans. If you want to buy ahead and can do so legally, go ahead. But own it. It’s not adoption. |
Agree (and I have two mixed breeds from a rescue). Sanctimony doesn’t change anyone’s mind. |
Dp. Well how are you going to convince people it is better to adopt? If we keep quiet than the problwm will never go away. Pure bred dogs also have problems as well. Since they aren't robots. |
| You’ll wait months to years for a tippy top breeder. |
You’re not going to convince people. Someone who wants to rescue will do that. And someone who wants to buy from a breeder will do that. The “problem” is the puppy mills. You are better off spending your energy on efforts to shut the mills down (by contacting legislators? I’m not sure). Attempting to shame your neighbors and friends isn’t going to work. The only thing you’ll accomplish is alienating them. |
When you get a rescue, you are still paying for that dog, so its no different than buying a dog from a breeder or rescue. Those rescues profit off of selling the dogs as well. |
Lots of kids are in foster care needing to be adopted? Do you feel that way about kids too? |

This rescue wants almost $700 for older dogs. They are begging for people to foster and making threats about putting a dog in a barn if no one takes him. Why can't someone in the rescue take the dog as that's what they signed up for?

Wait this dog has an $1100 adoption fee:

Exactly! A lot of rescues are scams. Always interesting to look at their taxes and see how much they pay their “officers,” and how much free travel the people take. |
