Hybla Valley Elementary School

I’m east of the Route 1 corridor in Mount Vernon and I’d recommend taking a look at that area. Hybla Valley is a tough sell for me, but there are a lot of other schools in the area (farther south) that have awful Great Schools ratings but are really good schools, just with a large non-English speaking population. I think the PP who mentioned Waples Mill is thinking of Washington Mill, which is ones of the schools I’d recommend.

Another thing, I would argue that any elementary school is going to be okay, but that Whitman Middle is the issue. We’re zoned for that school and I’m 100% certain we’ll do private if it doesn’t improve.

No. Any elementary wont be okay. Trying to learn foundational information in core subjects in an environment where the teacher's attention is taken up by ELL students is not helpful.

Whitman wasn't as bad as I had heard. Not even close.

I'd avoid Woodlawn, too, and the middle and high schools aren't great, but for elementary schools Waples Mill and Hollin Meadows are nearby and pretty nice.

Waples Mill is not nearby.

Hollin meadows and mount eagle are actually completely fine. Once you get through elementary then MS and HS are fine. If you want private, there are a few local options that are good and reasonable including Browne, St. Louis, Montessori

+1 for Hollin Meadows and Mount Eagle. Hollin Meadows has a new principal who was the Principal of the Year last year in Alexandria City School.
