FCPS-what week are high school boys basketball tryouts

Is it better to be a Varsity bench player or a top JV player? (for a sophomore so with several years to go at the school). Sophomore was a leading player on Freshman last year.

If he's at a big school, he's not going to skip JV and go straight from the freshman team to Varsity. If he was amazing, he would have played JV in 9th. Set his expectations for JV.

Why? IMHO practicing and being on Varsity would be better if they're that young. Their future is that team. If this was a Junior, answer would be different.

It would be highly unusual at a big public school to go from 9th to Varsity so its kinda a moot point.
