When did your (tall skinny) son start filling out?

I'm not sure. My son is 15, 5'7", and 120 lbs. When I see him alone, he looks fine, but when I see him around male peers he looks way too thin in comparison.

My husband was 6’1 and super skinny in high school. He was able to fill out around 18, but he has to work really hard to maintain a muscular upper body (there is no hope for his lower body). He does at least one protein shake a day (plus a ton of other protein sources) and works out with heavy weights most days. He is at 185. My guess is your son needs a few years and will need to do the same.

My son is 14.5, nearing 6 feet and weighs less than your son. He takes after the men in my family, who are 6'3 and skinny until 30's, then thin until 50's and then, maybe, they put on some weight.

That's quite thin. Of course, I did not know my husband or father when they were my son's age, but they say they were normal weight as teens. It is really only when I see DS around other teens that he looks unusual (his thighs are big, due to his sport, which means the rest of him is even smaller than ordinary on a 5'7" 120 lbs male).

16 and my youngest is still very skinny. He does have more muscle definition--but very, very skinny.
