When to wear American football t-shirt to school?

It's mostly a cultural and urban/suburban thing. Certain sports teams for certain gangs. Wearing the wrong logos in the wrong place and time can result in violent conflicts to put it nicely.
Not a big thing at the Kindergarten level, but becomes a thing in grade school and especially Jr. High. Many schools ban wearing any team logos due to it.

OP’s son has a shirt for his home city’s team. No one would think he was in a gang, even if he were a teenager.

Any day of the week is fine, game day is particularly apt but that’s usually Sunday so you may not be doing shirt appropriate things. Your child wearing the hometown team’s logo will not be confused for a gang member. I wouldn’t worry about that at all.

Yes, this is probably the only time he should avoid wearing it. Any other day is fine, but especially on game days or the day after a big WIN!
