When to wear American football t-shirt to school?

Anonymous
We are a nerdy immigrant family with a sports-mad kindergartener, and could use some help with this.

We live in a city where people love the sports teams and often wear the team's apparel. We bought our son a t-shirt for the city's American football team at his request. When should he wear it to school? Are there certain days of the week where it would be most appropriate? It seems like everyone wears the team's shirts on certain days and not at all on other days and I don't want him to be teased for wearing it on the wrong day.

They wear it on game day or Friday if the game is Sat/Sun

Look up the team’s schedule and wear it on game days, or the day after if your team wins.

As long as it's clean let him wear it whenever he wants to.

Yes to Friday or Monday or day after a win, and also if they are playing a Monday night or Thursday night game wear it that day.

BUT! He is in in K! He can wear it any day he wants and it'll never be wrong. Even wearing after a loss shows you have pride and still care about the team, win or lose.

A kindergartner can really wear it whenever he wants. No one will tease him for it.

Any age can wear it any day they want.

My son wears baseball and hockey shirts year-round. Every day is an appropriate day.

Any day is fine. When he is older, probably not after a big loss or when playing their biggest rival, people are more likely to make comments

But not even this. My super fan husband wears his shirts whenever he wants because he’s always a fan and is proud of it every day.

Your kindergartener won’t be teased. Wear the shirt whenever. Game days are good if you want to look for a specific day but really, any day is fine.

My 5th grader's classmates seem to wear team shirts constantly, not just football.

Be careful with that. As a little kid, not so much a big deal, but most wear sports paraphernalia as a "gang thing", so as to be a little under the radar from people.

I come from a football crazy state and fans wear team gear all the time — men, women, children, the elderly, even pets. What are you talking about?

If your kindergartner is wearing Steelers clothing…always. If any other team…never.

It's mostly a cultural and urban/suburban thing. Certain sports teams for certain gangs. Wearing the wrong logos in the wrong place and time can result in violent conflicts to put it nicely.
Not a big thing at the Kindergarten level, but becomes a thing in grade school and especially Jr. High. Many schools ban wearing any team logos due to it.
