Front seat?

My truck doesn't have a back seat so my kid has always rode up front, It also doesn't have a passenger side airbag so i don't see any issue there.

The 4’9” and 80lbs means they can sit without a booster seat, not sit up front. Airbags are actually designed with an adult 150 lbs and over 5 ft in mind. The air bags will turn off in my car when it detects a kid or smaller weight sitting there, but I don’t think it makes it safer.

I mean, 150 lbs and over 5' isn't always realistic. I'm under 5' and 100 lbs and I can't sit in the back and drive...should my parents have prevented me from sitting up front until I absolutely had to get into that driver's seat?

No but you should have your airbags disabled. They will kill you if they deploy. That’s what my family does.

In my car, a passenger does not trigger the airbags under 80 pounds. In fact, I think it is 85. My 12 year old is 5' and 88 pounds and I let her sit in the front for local driving but not highway. My 14 year old is 5'4" and 105 and sits in the front seat whenever there are not two adults in the car.

When I bought the car the claim was that as long as the seat belt fit right (it does), I would be OK. I did ask, because I had heard that they will kill you under 5'2".

In my state (MN) the law is under 13 in the backseat unless it’s not possible. So, my 12 year old is in the back most of the time. Yesterday I drove him, two 9 year olds, and our 60 lb dog to a park and he sat in the front.

That's a bit dramatic. They won't kill you in fact they're designed to save you.

5' 110 person who has had airbags deploy on them as a driver. Still alive. It wasn't pleasant but I'm not dead because of them.

Age 13 is the official recommendation but it also depends your kid’s height/weight. If they are 13 but really tiny in stature I’d still have them in the back seat. I wouldn’t have any kid up front til 13 no matter how big they are and if they are really small for their age I would have them stay in the back seat even longer.

13 with my oldest.
My younger one is 10, short, & still needs a booster. I don’t care that some of her friends sit up front.

I will just say that I am shocked by how many people allow no seatbelts or kids in the front seat in the neighborhood. In my mind, it’s just habit - you buckle up and sit in the correct spot before driving.

NP. Explain how PP is a “low life”. If you are intellectually capable of doing so.

So are all of us under 150 pounds not suppose to use airbags? I have never heard of this before.

This comes up in connection with 5 point harnesses too, and people can take it really personally. It's not personal, no one is telling you where to sit. But the safety features of the car are not designed with you in mind, just like they are not designed with a 6'5" man in mind. The fact there aren't better options for your frame doesn't change the physics. So yes, you would be safer in the back seat.

I have super tall kids, so I looked into this. The recommendation is 13, because it's not just based on height or weight, it's on how and when the bones mature.
