Breaking news - teenager does something dumb.

I'm Jewish and one of my kids attends the school where that email was sent out. I assume it was a swastika, but have no idea. I think it sounds like it was handled well. Let us know before the rumors and address it.Teens do all sorts of stupid things. High school is a great time to make it an educational opportunity. I can think of many reasons why a kid did this and it doesn't make the kid a Nazi including: a dare, rebelling against parents, copying parents, impulse control issue, acting out, etc. My teen had a kid who's half Jewish write that symbol out in middle school and show him and dare him to do the same. Glad my kid didn't. Teenagers do many stupid things, but hopefully we can still reach them before they become useful idiots to the Islamic Republic of Iran.

Our student receives emails like this from the Virginia state college they attended. It is still occurs with kids of all ages.

OP do you want us to clutch our pearls?

I am flabbergasted! How does something like this happen in a place like this, now? (FCPS)

“ Dear XXXXXXXX Community,

We have recently been made aware of a student using a hate symbol while in class.

We want to be clear that FCPS does not tolerate this kind of behavior in our schools. It is unacceptable that any student at XXXXXXXX High School feels that this is appropriate behavior. This is not the kind of school community we seek to cultivate. We have made a commitment in FCPS that any time these situations arise, we will share them with our school community to send a clear message that we denounce these actions.

Every student in FCPS has the right to feel safe and affirmed in our schools. Words matter, no matter the context, no matter the situation. In partnership with the Chief Equity Office, we will continue to work within our school community to have dialogues about dignity, humanization and belonging. I ask you to engage in these same conversations at home.

Below are two resources that can also help guide your conversations at home:

How to Talk to Your Children About Hate Speech
Talking to your child about slurs: When words hurt
Our students can make a difference in this world by learning to embrace and value our differences instead of using them to divide us.

If you have any questions, please feel free to reach out to me directly. I would like to hear your ideas about making McLean High School a more welcoming and culturally responsive environment for all.

Ellen Reilly”

I'm only flabbergasted you made a big deal of keeping the school private and then didn't take the name of the high school or the administrator out of your email.

How do you "use" a hate symbol?

The only way I can "use" one is like making a hand sign, like the OK sign that 4chan said was a hate symbol just so they could freak out normies

A "MAGA" poster.

Bullshit. Nice try.

My guess would be a swastika

Exactly. No doubt by a LWNJ student .

So MAGA poster fits

Actually. No. The ones with the swastikas are the same people who think what happened on October 7 2024 is acceptable. The same people marching through the streets with their keffiyeh and shutting down college campuses. Those are the people that you need to worry about.

+ a million
Very telling that people like the PP are spinning as fast as they can to distance themselves from their party’s antisemites.

I'm sure doodling one on your paper could also count.

I find it most telling that half this thread is posters jumping to politics when, really, it is true that both:

1) teenagers are generally idiots (with many notable exceptions) who don't think before they act, and
2) terrible people exist across all possible categories of human

You’d no doubt be clutching those pearls if the symbol was anti-Islamic, amirite? Utter hypocrite.
Not the OP

Sure. As long as you apply that “kids will be kids” attitude the next time someone expresses anti-Muslim or anti-black sentiments.

Is this true? Someone showed a maga thing?

The email did not specify what it was.

I want more speculation. Who do you assume did it? What do you assume it was? Who do you assume they are voting for, despite being of minor age?
