She likes being known as that Australian actress dominating American film. She should play grandmother type roles now. They can replace Meryl S with her. |
Sameeee. I've met him a few times. Great guy. Cannot stand the characters he plays. |
|
Blake Lively for sure. I guess also Ryan Reynolds but I find him so offputting I never see stuff he's in. I've never seen the Deadpool movies.
Zendaya and Florence Pugh. They've been the "it" girls for a while. I need a break. Chris Pratt. I find him very annoying. Emma Stone. I really HATED her in Poor Things (and hated that movie). When I saw she'd made another film with the same director it was a hard no for me even though I liked the rest of the cast. I have not always disliked her but recently I find her very pretentious in a way that makes me tired. She thinks she's making "art." But I've actually only liked her in a few things. She's no better than any other actress. Similarly: Natalie Portman. Same reasons. The best movie I've seen recently was Ghostlight which had a cast of total unknowns and was incredibly good. It makes me want more of that. It's really wonderful to go into a movie with no preconceptions from an actor's public persona or prior work. |
She has been producing a lot of the shows she's appearing in (and it's mostly limited series on streaming platforms). I think she knows she has a bit of an opportunity now to pull an audience due to the popularity of Big Little Lies and she's making hay. By producing these projects she also make backend from the streaming services so that increases her payout. I think it's going to become a lot harder for her to work at all in the next few years just due to her age and the types of roles she plays (she's truthfully already stretching it a lot by playing these mom characters but at least in The Perfect Couple she is believably a mom to adults). I can see her making the occasional movie or getting a character role in the odd prestige TV show but I think this is it for her in terms of headlining projects and being able to get stuff greenlit with just her name attached. Reese Witherspoon and Jennifer Aniston are in a similar mode though they both have more non-acting lines of revenue (endorsements and product lines and such) than Nicole does. But it's all just aging actresses realizing they may be hitting the ceiling on their acting years. If they make enough they could just invest and coast OR if they want they can set themselves up to continue to produce. But they need cash and industry connects and that means work work work. I don't like everything Kidman does these days but I respect her for working her butt off and seizing every opportunity. It's better than climbing on an ice floe and waiving goodbye. |

| I am sick to death of the Tom Hanks monopoly, enough already!!! |
| Yes, Tom Hanks. Bye Forrest. Bye. |
| Sandra Bullock, plus many already listed. |
I’m not a huge Molly Shannon fan and never liked her on SNL but I am actually loving her on Only Murcers. (Feel the same way about Martin Short who irritates me in almost anything else but is somehow perfect on this show.) I’m surprised to see Julia Roberts in some many lists — I feel like she hasn’t done anything in forever. Sandy Bullick also seems to have really stepped back. I do feel like Florence Pugh is in everything right now. I think some of these actors do a fair amount on crap just to pay for the artsy vanity projects or theater work they love. |
I feel the same! Really enjoying Molly, Martin & Meryl in Only Murders even when they annoy me in other things (less so Meryl, I still mostly like her). |
PP. Maybe Molly doesn't bother you as much in Only Murders because her acting is congruent with the nutty character. But Molly acts the same in every role and sometimes those shows or movies aren't self-aware like OMITB so it comes across as unnecessarily campy. And I don't dislike her as an actor, but you know what you're getting when she appears. |
I liked Molly in White Lotus. She wasn't quite as nutty in that. |
Yes! This last round of press for Emily Blunt made me not want to see her again for awhile. |
|
Agree with all mentioned here, including Timothee Chalamet. I’d also add Jack Black and Jim Carey, so annoying.
I sometimes like Ryan Renyolds but seriously doubt he’s acting much. He plays the same part over and over, which leads me to believe that’s just the way he is - probably fun to have at a dinner party, but you’re glad when he goes home. |
