The brutal, but honest truth of the matter. The level of incompetence that is tolerated and even celebrated in MCPS makes me feel like I'm existing in an alternate reality. |
Turn Central Office jobs into Student Worker job/internship program, they should be able to do a better job. |
Exactly. |
| Incompetent is how to sum it up for me. Many Admin in schools are wonderful, but I’ve worked with some awful ones too. They ruin staff morale and climate, and they delegate every problem presented to them to someone else. When do school staff get to evaluate administrators? Some of them are in need of feedback, both positive and negative. |
| What is the policy if a teacher or admin at school level screws up, do they just place them in CO-create a position for them, if they don't fire them? Can think of a handful who made either a controversial decision, was inadequate at scho level and later were "promoted" to CO. |
Admin are evaluated via the Culture/Climate surveys that staff and students take annually. The problem is no one in OSSI holds admin accountable for those poor results. |
Having students (as young as 6 year olds) complete surveys on adults? Ridonc! |
So true. I actually said to my admin last year that the professionalism of education is incredibly subpar compared to the outside professional world (which I worked in for 15 years prior). I think that’s why I struggle so much with this job. When someone says something or does something absolutely unacceptable (for example, scream at me when I ask for help), then somehow I’m then the one who is unprofessional” when I call them out on their behavior. It’s unbelievable how incompetent so many are. I know that sounds mean but it’s incredibly true. I’m sick of being treated like a child. |
I could have written the exact same thing. I'm regretful and embarrassed that we stayed in this school system. Every encounter I have with staff at the counselor or admin level is shockingly ....... stupid. I know that is a very harsh word but there is no other way to say it. Combine that with the apathy and it's just a sad place. |
As much as they claim those surveys are Anonymous, you must understand that many do not believe theybare Anonymous at all and aren't being completely honest. When you don't trust the system you can't trust a survey to be Anonymous. |
Sad but probably true. |
Agree. Our school does not have a class for my child for next year and the counselor and admin told me to figure it out. |
Almost as ridiculous as having a SMOB (often a minor) with full voting rights on the BOE with an annual budget in the billions. |
But you can look at the scores for your students and see that something needs to improve. And if you’re a reasonable leader (which I’ll admit is a problem in many industries) it doesn’t take rocket science to know when morale is not where it should be. |
They must have a binder of expressions they are told to use: -we know -our hands are tied -you're the parent, you deal with it Some phrases come with facial expressions: smug, roll eyes, disgusted frown, apathetic look. They don't even know how things work within their own area of office. |
