The only foods that are solely American not influenced by other cuisines that I can think of are Rice Crispy Treats, Jello Shots and those TV dinners from the 70s.
Desserts Cheesecake Milkshakes Ice Cream Sundae Hershey Chocolate Chocolate Chip Cookies Oatmeal Raison Pineapple Upside Down Cake baked Alaska Brownies Beverages Coke, Pepsi Protein shakes Tang, kool aid Savory Philly Cheesesteak Salisbury Steak Sloppy Joes Tuna Casserole Tuna Melt Chicken Parmesan Lobster Roll NYC bagels, lox Hotdog/chili dog Steak and baked potato Mac and Cheese Turkey and stuffing Fried Chicken Fried Turkey Cobb, Waldorf or southwestern salad Tex Mex Nachos French fries and onion rings Fried chicken sandwich |

Here we go: Steak and baked potato berry pies Maryland blue crabs Crab cakes Pork ribs ( I mean, come on, that is so good; other countries with great BBQs are making it; it is not just any BBQ; it has to be specified, BCS hotdogs can be BBQ but are nasty) Cor on the cob (not uniquely American, but what is uniquely just any country?) Lobster Devil's food cake Angel food cake All variations of choc chip cookies (including my fav, macadamia cookies) Banana cake with walnuts Pecan pie Chinese broccoli and meat ( I think we can agree this is an American dish and not Chinese) Pancakes Fried chicken Salads, so many salads! Salad dressing is not a dish, but while I do love olive oil, salt on me, tomatoes, and plain salads, I love so many American salads. American salads are above and beyond other salads. I am European, me dears. You will find no snobbish statements from me about American food. Most American dishes are great, including baked pasta dishes. I will not eat slush, though! I have no idea how DH's grandma came up with it or what the original recipe was like, but dang, the way she made it was not tasty. |
