Silly question about school supplies...

Our MoCo school does NOT allow parents inside. We take all our photos in the front yard and at the bus stop - although I will admit that for my K boy last year, after the bus picked him up I beat it to the school so I could get a picture of him walking in

The kids do fine; it is the parents that don't fare so well. The kindergarten parents meet to weep together the first day. I'll be doing it again with my DD, who is my youngest. I get teary just thinking of her entering the "system". Regarding supplies, I took the day off work to attend the open house and I will drop them off at their desks (if the teachers permit it), that way they don't have to carry everything in their backpacks on Monday.

OP here...I got a back-to-school supply kit at the open house today (PTA put them together for $20) but I didn't drop it off in DS's classroom because nothing was labeled with his name. It's a big bag, too heavy for him to carry himself. We're walkers and I'll be taking him to the black top where the different classes line up before school. They specifically asked us not to walk our kids in, so I doubt I'll be able to help him with the bag. Sigh.

PP here. My school also had the PTA sponsored tool kit and I purchased 1 for each child as they are put togehter per the needs of each grade. I was able to drop my supplies during today's "open house" since my school does not like the parents to come in the building; we CAN enter, but they prefer we don't. If your school is like my school, none of the supplies are kid specific. The supplies will be put in a big pool and divvied out in the class room. If all the parent's purchased supplies than it evens out at the end.

OP here...I'm such a dummy!! I should have dropped if off in DS's classroom today when I had the chance...would have avoided the headache.

$20 is a deal -- I purchased ours at 3 different stores, getting the best deals at each store, and they were still over $40!

My children ride the bus. I send them on the bus the first day of school even as kindergarteners. In the three years that my daughter has been in school, I can count on one hand the number of times I have driven her to school.

As for supplies, we bring them in on open house day. And $20 is a deal! Our edukit offered by the PTA was over $70! I bought them on my own and spent half of that!

PP here (the one who dropped the supplies off last friday at the open house) - I am starting to think the OPs DS is at the same school as mine as our toolkit was also approx $20 for the kindergartners and $24 for the 1st graders. I really feel I got a deal after reading some of the posts!
