Kamala Harris to skip Al Smith dinner, a traditional event for major presidential candidates
PHOENIX (AP) — Vice President Kamala Harris will skip this year’s Al Smith charity dinner in New York, breaking with presidential tradition so she can campaign instead in a battleground state less than three weeks before Election Day. The dinner benefitting Catholic Charities traditionally has been used to promote collegiality and good humor, with presidential candidates from both parties appearing on the same night and trading barbs. Her team told organizers that she would be willing to attend as president if she’s elected, the official said. Catholic Charities is a creepy cause, I don't even open their mailers. The church would sooner declare bankruptcy than pay victims of molestation, then turn around and beg for money? GTFOH.

Al Smith grew up in poverty and later became the governor of New York four times, and was the first Catholic nominated for president by a major party as the Democratic nominee in the 1928 election. By 1960, the Al Smith dinner had become a "ritual of American politics", in the words of Theodore H. White. It is generally the last event at which the two major party presidential candidates share a stage before the election. |

Besides being an institution of the American presidential election, the dinner raises millions to help people, mostly kids and families.
It’s ridiculous, the way democrats have to disparage and attack every thing and call normal things, nay, things that help others, creepy and weird. There’s a reason Kamala isn’t going, and it’s not GOTV. |

Catholic Charities throughout the US are huge social service agencies that often have large contracts with state and city governments. Catholic Charities have these contracts because they are a trusted provider. It is also a charity separate from whatever diocese they are located in. You both need to educate yourselves, because you are seriously uninformed. |
