8th Grade Parents - how are you approaching the criteria/lottery/choice programs?

Blair SMCS about 800 apply for 100 spots.

The eligibility criteria is listed on Programs at a Glance under the MCPS Special program pages. Selection after application is up to a committee and based on multiple measures/criteria. Just like getting admitted to college.

Does anyone know if it's just this fall MAP score, or also winter that will be considered?

How about RMIB?

Are there typically open houses for students admitted to the application program? I.e., we can't easily make one of the open houses and admittance is a long shot, so could we wait and see to get a sense of vibe?

Thank you, but I watched this and didn't see my specific question answered about open houses after admittance (perhaps I missed it). Does anyone know off the top of their head? Thanks in advance.

Yes and this has been discussed many, many times on DCUM

I've also searched and can't find the answer. Is there any reason you can't just say it? Many, many things posted on this website can be found elsewhere online, but people ask and nice folks out there answer. Weird.

1050 ish RM for 100 (and 25 more from Jw)

800 for Blair for 100 spots but I’d argue that it’s more competitive than rm, especially considering that it’s not county wide

Speaking of going far back, I wonder how many people knew that in third grade teachers were deciding who would get compact math, and that would basically decide how much math they got before taking standardized tests, and not only what level math they would take in ninth grade, but what science classes.

Wheaton has 30 spots for each magnet but I don’t know the number of applications. It is DCC.

Students who are struggling in math don't need to be taking very advanced math science classes in 9th grade. There are many opportunities for upward adjustment between 3rd and 9th, for students willing as able.
