They’re a good retail bank for most consumers.

There are plenty of less scandal prone options. I don’t understand how anyone paying attention is still giving Wells Fargo their business.

I understand the shade Wells has had a lot of fraud and issues, they're also selling mortgages and no longer offering lines of credits.

the Crown banking has $0 atm fees for non wells ATMS, everyday checking does not. Crown also has $0 fees on money orders or cashiers check, Crown does not. in order to keep those perks you have to switch to a prime checking which requires a $20k daily balance.

+1. I was shocked they were still around after the fake accounts scandal.

Well what are you all using for free checking accounts? Which bank?

I'm using the local credit union I signed up with during grad school some ~13 years ago. The nearest branch is about 1,000 miles away but their customer service is top notch.

Wait so is the fee waived if you have direct deposit?

Pen Fed is worth looking into. Have to be a member but almost anyone can join. Ask them how.

I think many, like me, are too lazy to switch. Between direct deposit, bill pay and accounts that link to my checking, it seems like a headache to change. It’s enough work to deal with credit card fraud issues, which seem to happen more frequently.
