Seizures and addiction question

My mother would have seizures when she tried to detox herself. She ultimately died in her 50s from alcohol related organ failure.

Another personal story here.

This is about a woman in her mid-forties when it all started. The first thing that happened was a brain aneurysm. After that, seizures developed and because there was a lot more supervision of her time with her child because of the seizures, it became clear there was a serious benzo and alcohol problem. We later found out those addictions way preceded the aneurysm. We are pretty sure the aneurysm and the seizures were both alcohol/drug related.

She would try to stop, then have seizures. Then fall off the wagon. Then try to stop, have seizures. This cycle went on for years. I don't think she was honest with doctors about the alcohol/drug abuse stuff, so they would just give her seizure medication thinking it was a result of the aneurysm. And then when she'd have another seizure she would get them adjust the medication.

So, all of that is to say, it is VERY easy for addicts to lie about their addictions, and if they don't have someone in their life who knows the truth and tells the doctors and demands action, the doctors really have no way of knowing that these seizures are alcohol/drug withdrawal related.

21:23 poster here. The woman I mentioned's boyfriend died of alcohol related organ failure too. In his fifties.
