To lose around 10 lbs? And what then after I do that? I have 2 friends who required this med due to A1C issues, both pre-diabetic. They lost weight, yes, but the side effects were debilitating, each had something different. And, in order to stay that way, it would be a lifetime drug at least for one of them. So, no. Ozempic has a role, but it shouldn't be for everyone. I literally would rather stay at my current weight than take a medication. Plus, it changes nothing regarding thyroid issues. |
OP - work with your doctors and a dietician. Nobody here knows the answer. Everyone is unique. |
Do you see an Endo? Have you checked your T3?
Synthroid is T4, which is converted to T3 by your body. Some people don’t convert well. I had RAI for my thyroid and have almost no thyroid function. Had low ish T3. Added small dose (5mcg) of liothyronine. The brand name is Cytomel. This helped me a lot with fatigue. Can’t really recall if it changed my weight a lot as this was over 20 years ago. |
You’re 5’5” and 160 which puts you into the overweight category so it should be approved for you. It’s something I would think about. |
Yes, of course I do. I had to give up Cyomel as I was becoming hyperthyroid. I was in Cytomel for 20 years, with Synthroid. still no weight loss then. I actually lost weight after getting off it. As one ages, you thyroid replacement requirement becomes less, btw, causing all kinds of BS, including possible other health problems. |
I'm a size 10. While BMI is used in many places, it has little relevancy to women, and especially older women. Using a weight loss drug for 10 or so lbs is not a great idea, and again, what happens after that? If I can't manage to lose 10 lbs on my own, Ozempic isn't going to change my life. |
True- but thd post menopausal thing is ubiquitous and very real. Sadly. |
Similar profile to you op. I would cut back on carbs and add more exercise. To lose weight I eat basically no carbs, no added sugar, walk 4 to 5 miles a day (no weights but intentionally include hills), lift weights and do a full body work out 2-3 x a week and add either running or swimming two days a week. I have to eat a lot less and move a lot more than before to lose weight (and keep it off). |
Try a 14 hour intermittent fast for two weeks. |
