What do you drink with your tasting menu

Wine pairings make me drink too fast and too much. I don’t like them, and I love wine. I wish they had a half wine pairing, like every other course


The one we just attended absolutely had small pours -- not just to cut down on the alcohol, but to prevent the glasses from lining up unfinished as the tiny courses came through. Each was paired with 1-3 courses, so unless you chugged, a full pour makes no sense. They also had a cocktail/mocktail paring option. And, of course, water is fine.

Also you can always ask to share the wine pairing so you and your dining partner have half the pour each. Restaurants are usually very flexible about doing a smaller number of glasses in the pairing too, so you should definitely ask
