Schools with cleanest air?

That MCPS dashboard is very misleading. Just shows averages for the building. Won’t show that in my classroom the air quality sensor is always red. It’s been 78 degrees with 70+% humidity for many years. Why do you think so many schools have mold issues? It’s all theatre for parents as well as teachers.

You should definitely stay in public school with their pristine and closely monitored air. Please do not come to my kids’ private school with our questionable air. But I dare you to bring this up with the MCPS charts at a school admissions event!

Sidwell brings in fresh, organic, artisanal air from the Swiss Alps and pumps it in to their hermetically sealed buildings. I wonder about people who accept less for their children.

Also, psst, we never use MCPS as a benchmark for ANYTHING. EVER.

OP here. And yup, I am completely insufferable. I want my kids to eat unspoiled food, drink uncontaminated water, and breathe clean air. I even expect schools to be free of asbestos, mold, and pedophiles. Crazy, right?

When my kids were little I used to look around the preschool and elementary school rooms for plants, windows that actually opened, carpet that didn't look toxic, etc.

Also consider the location of the school - is it next to a highway or busy road or does it have green space around it.

Are you sure all the Sidwell buildings are LEED gold certified? I am sure MS is, and future US will be.....but as a Sidwell parent, I'm not convinced current US is. (no idea about LS)

Not platinum???

😂

Most of Sidwell’s LS buildings and the US Athletic Center are LEED Gold-certified. Sidwell’s MS and US Quaker Meeting House and Arts Center are all LEED Platinum-certified.

According to Sidwell’s website, the Middle School was “the first K–12 school in the world to have a LEED Platinum rating and the first LEED Platinum building in the District of Columbia [March 2007].”

Note - the current Sidwell main US academic building is NOT listed here. I'd be surprised if it is LEED Gold certified.

Sidwell does not list the US as LEED certified, so it probably isn’t. Once they sell the LS Bethesda property, they’ll gut and renovate the current US to make room for the new LS. I’m sure the new LS will be LEED certified. Then, all of Sidwell’s buildings will be LEED certified, except Zartman.

Hysterical, like anyone gets in to Sidwell but wants to check the air quality stats first. The next person on the wait list would be happy to attend with their mid quality air.

What does toxic look like?

Yes please come to our LEED building but 150 cars have been idling outside for 30 minutes twice a day. I’m sure that has to cancel out!

Are you guys sure LEED means clean air? I thought it meant energy efficient. I'm not sure those two are always hand in hand.

LEED certification is based on a composite score that includes many elements, one of which is air quality. Many other aspects of the building’s design (energy efficiency, efficient water use, access to public transportation, etc) factor into the score. Some factors are given a heavier weight than others.

My guess is that OP sells the air quality monitoring equipment and likely is not liberal.
