U Chicago vs Georgetown

Do ED to Chicago. The ‘where fun goes to die’ thing is dated. It’s now lots of really smart kids unhooked for Ivies. They love ED - and you’ll be done and likely into one of the best schools in the country.

The love Gtown too but not as clear ED and more of crapshoot

I’m still hung up on the fact that he wants to go to GU for the “fun” factor, I guess compared to Chicago, it’s fun.

Georgetown doesn't have a good program. There business school is .. okay, but very pre-pro. Georgetown is really only great for SFS at the moment.

Georgetown business program ranks very highly.

What business program isn’t pre-pro?

just saying depending on what kind of Econ the kid wants, the GU program is either for him or not. Their business school is good, but it's a business school.

OP didn’t say the kid wants Econ…wants business internships (but unsure what to study).

Chicago, no doubt. Especially if it's what he wants and not just trying to game admissions game.

If not chicago, I'd say ND over GU for business and fun culture.

It’s not dated…it’s just not as suicidal. It’s still not “fun”.

Georgetown is more tired and dated than fun. Chicago is a much more dynamic school, faculty, and student body. Not even a close call.

it also depends what you mean by fun. there's real party life at chicago, frats .. all that.

But you pretty much have ED to Chicago based on their recent history to have a decent shot

This is the answer. He’ll have a decision from Georgetown REA before he has to submit the Chicago ED2 app. The one hitch is that if he’s accepted to Georgetown I’m not sure if the REA terms allow for an ED2; you’d want to check on that.

I mean, that's if you prefer GU. it's not a better school.

UChicago is the superior school, based on student smarts and faculty quality across all areas, and reputation. It is basically a T10, has much better research, feeds a higher % to JD/PhD/MD, feeds better into MBB, and is considered "ivy-plus" by the multiple articles that have researched the benefits of the ivy+ schools(officially MIt, stanford, UChicago ,duke).

Unlikely admit REA GU — he’ll probably be deferred

Agree my kid had to forgo REA at the Ivies that had SCEA since he chose to EA Georgetown- thought he’d have better chance there then wasting EA at an Ivy. Turned out wasn’t the case. But, was able to EA publics like UVA along with GU.

MIT, Stanford, and Chicago are all better than Duke academically. The student bodies might have similar scores, but that’s where the comparisons end. I don’t get the love affair with that school.

Chicago unless also really into international affairs.

For top private universities, the school with EA>>>the school with ED.

Duke is T10 in basketball.
