If you see them in the flesh they don't look the same at all. Hyundai looks like a boxy minivan that blends in with every other crossover whereas the GX is big and has a lot more road presence. |
It is a modern version of the original

No removable top or doors. |

google is your friend.

| Just did a quick search and found it in 2 seconds. |
Why? It was already ID'd on the 1st page of this thread. |
Meh, why do models always have to change? The old Defender looked nice. Land Rover keeps morphing classic models into something else. I prefer the shape of the old Defender and the old Range Rover Sport and Discovery, for that matter. OTOH, I like the new Lexus, so change isn't always bad. |
| The new Defender looks like a golf cart. The new Lexus looks so much better. |
Yeah a lot of people went for a new 2023 GX because it has the great old V8. Get the hybrid GX when it comes out. |
Because it’s a TRUE off-road capable vehicle, and those tend to have smaller wheels and tires with taller sidewalls. That way you can lower the tire air pressure to about 12psi when driving off-road and allow the tire to flex around and over the terrain, getting better traction. Also, the sidewall with flex and “mush” slightly, improving the quality of the ride over rocks and ruts and bumps. Modern luxury SUVs have stupid lower sidewall tires with giant 20”+ wheels, which are absolutely useless off-road because they cannot handle the lower air pressures described above. 100% guarantee that 25 year old Lexus in that photo is far more capable than a Range Rover coming straight from the showroom floor today. |
No, it’s a shitty version of the original. |
As if more than 3 people buying an SUVs actually drive off-road.

Just like most cars, it looks better in black:
|
| It's so ugly. Lexus usually makes good looking cars, but that thing is just hideous. Maybe worse than the wagoneer. |

I saw a new Landcruiser this week (same platform as the Lexus GX) and it looked sexy AF. Much more distinctive appearance than the Lexus GX.
I'd much rather get the Landcruiser. Though, it only comes with one row, whereas GX has a 3rd row option. |
