The class sizes for any grade can vary from year to year depending on the enrollment and how the math shakes out.

Quite surprising that there are 3 classes with enrollment that low

They said some more kids might still enroll.

We went from 7 to 6 K classes.

But was that due to lower enrollment or increase in class size guidelines?

It’s lower enrollment, if they can keep around 23 each class at the beginning of the year, they can keep the extra class, if the enrollment is consistently 19-20, they will cut a class then each class will be crowded.

But fewer kids enrolling doesn't necessarily mean smaller class sizes. Let's say you have 60 kindergarteners this year and have three classes of 20 each. But next year, only 50 kindergarteners enroll, and then you have two classes of 25 each.

Isn’t that possible everywhere?

I believe the subject was referring to school year 24-25. Not the size. OP was asking what sizes people are seeing this year.

This is what happened at our MCPS ES. Not from birthrates but kids leaving for private after Covid closures. Class sizes went up bc fewer teachers/classes per grade.
