| How are Kindergarten class sizes looking across the county? |
| That's too big, but schools are trying to save money. |
| Class of '25 K size for a non Focus/Title I school was 28. |
| 27 here... |
1st half of the year was 25 each class 3 classes 2nd half, one kid got transferred to my kids class because the other teacher couldnt handle him and then another kid was added/transferred from a different state so it became 24,25,27. One of the cons of having a 30-year teacher but my son still had a great experience. Better in the first half and took about 2-3 months for the class dynamics to stabilize but thats public education. |
| Are any schools seeing lower enrollment for Kindergarten this year? It’s hard to look for trends when MCPS hasn’t updated their at-a-glance documents/the new dashboard with 2023-4 data. |
We went from 7 to 6 K classes. |
But was that due to lower enrollment or increase in class size guidelines? |
I wonder if that was due to the increase in class size guidelines, and not a decrease in enrollment. |
| In our district it is often a result of late registrations (classes are set and late registrants are added when it's too late to create another class) |
| 16 over here in Silver Spring. |
I think it was a bit of both. Might have eeked out a 7th class if the guidelines were the old ones. But lower than last year. |
| Those are huge. My kid had 19 last year, and first grade is 21. |
| We have 43 kids in two classes this year. |
| 26 students in each of the 4 K classes at Woodlin. |
