Three to a seat is normal. My son is 6'2, so I agree it's ridiculous. My kids also can't bring their instrument on the bus.

So bus riders quit band/orchestra? This is our first year (first day) riding the bus and DC hasn't had to deal with bringing the instrument yet.
We rented an instrument that stayed at the school. My DC played the upright bass.

Did you rent two? How did you practice?

This happened on our dc's high school bus last year....not at all safe but it happened. Busses and classrooms are overcrowded.

They are counting on people to try the bus, dislike it, and drive their kids instead.

Nope this happened all last year-kids sitting on the floor.

Yes, this has happened every year in MS.

As for instruments, the MS band had extras of most large instruments so the school one stayed at school and then the rental stayed at home.

Hmmmm...so no more bussing? How would you choose who to "deny"

This would never happen. We are already have a chronic absenteeism and this would for sure escalate it.

Contact the transportation office. There is always some shifting around of busses the first two weeks of school.

But boundary changes to alleviate overcrowding are only equity virtue signaling and not based at all on sensibility and solving real logistical issues.

If the problem persists beyond the first week or so, call the transportation office for your region. There are often changes made once they figure out how many people are consistently riding the bus.

We also rented a cello to be left at school during MS. It was very cheap to rent from the school. Then we had our one at home also for practice.

This happened with my kids years ago as well. This is not a new problem. They did try to address the sitting on the floor but 3 to a seat was normal.

I missed what school the OP is from. Seems like you would need that info before making a comment like yours, especially given One Fairfax and the recent history with the school board’s equity virtue signaling.

Our school buses are technically designed for 3 elementary kids per seat and 2 middle/high school students per seat. This obviously can change capacity depending on the size of the various children on board. Sitting on the floor is not acceptable. The bus drivers will share this ridership info daily with their transportation supervisors as they balance the bus loads the first couple weeks of school.

We are not a third world country. This should not be normal in such a wealthy county.
