I had a friend with a dog like this and a simply stopped going to her home. She never made any effort to correct her dog’s behavior, and being in her house was super stressful. |
| I began carrying pepper spray on my walks with my dog. If your dog is off leash, not being recalled, and running towards my reactive dog, I am pepper spraying it to heck. |
| People who let their dogs off leash where they aren’t supposed to are the worst. Every day, I see people running their dogs on the grass at the local elem school. Of course the huge no dogs on school property signs don’t apply to them and of course they don’t pick up their dogs’ poop and of course kids step in it and stink up the classrooms and ruin their shoes. People are so rude now. |
I have a sweet ancient dog that’s always walked off leash in my neighborhood. Its owner let it walk right up to my plants by my front porch and pee on them. She was shocked when I yelled at her about this. Dog urine kills plants and grass. |
Saw an old bag walking her tiny dog around the produce section at Giant in McLean yesterday. Disgusting. |
I hate when dogs are off leash where they aren't supposed to be but it's really hard fur me to imagine using pepper spray on a dog-- it really is not their fault. If I could legally get away with pepper spraying their crap owners, I would. But then I'd just get charged with assault. Reading some of these stories of people letting their dogs run right up to people and jump on them (or the one about the dog who was allowed to run up on the neighbors deck!) make me really mad. I've experienced some of these as well, with my young child-- dogs running up to her on trails or at parks or on the street. She developed an extreme fear of digs and while I don't know for certain this is why, I do think the unpredictability of the dogs around us has at least contributed to it. What can we do to fix this? The leash laws exist but there's no enforcement and I don't know what it would look like. Cops posted at parks handing out tickets? Or maybe be social reprobation-- photographing owners who do this and posting it online? How do we make this better instead of being held hostage by bad dog owners who refuse to follow a practical rule intended to keep both dogs and people safe? |
| They think they are cool because the believe their dog is trained. Eventually the dog gets carred. |
Yes, you are Disgusting. |
You're as likely to get yourself/your dog with this approach as you are to make a point to a stupid owner w/ an off-leash dog. Try pet corrector spray, if you want to carry something: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0124G47TW/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_search_asin_title?ie=UTF8&th=1 Or kick them. That's what I do. If your dog is close enough to my boot to get kicked, there's your problem. |
Great idea….I’m sure that will really diffuse the situation effectively. /s |
If you kicked my dog who is not posing a threat to you then I would punch you in the face. You can make up a bunch of rationalizations to justify your actions but that wouldn’t stop me. If you want a dog to ignore you then you need to ignore the dog. |
It's not my job to determine whether or not the dog you're not controlling correctly is gonna be a problem. The moment you let your dog in my space, it's a threat. If you keep your dog in your space, we won't have this problem. It's your job to keep your dog safe from my boot. My dog is (usually) friendly, but I'm (usually) not. And if you touch me, I'll probably unalive you. FAFO. |
You're disgusting. PP was talking about situations where your dog is bothering people and that includes jumping. Your dog jumping on me is going to result in your dog getting kicked. Your last statement is idiotic. Keep your animal leashed you selfish azzhat. |
+1 conceal carry is a thing FAFO |
You are pre-planning to kick a harmless dog. In the real world accidents happen and we don’t get to murder or assault people or animals that are not actual threats. Then you threaten to murder me for defending my dog? You are sick. Get help. |
