Life in northern neck on the water?

We don't have a house there but our friends do. If you're boat people, and just want to get away from it all, I think it would be great. It's not my favorite place to swim.

When we drive from DC, it can be 3 hours or more. So it's a little too long unless you can do long weekends, IMO.

I love Kilmarnock. Have lunch at the Carwash Cafe and then visit the super weird but wonderful mid-century antiques store in town.

Some lots have great water for swimming. Others do not. Those owners boat to a beach for swimming. Fishing is great there. April-mid July and Fall are the best times to be there (mild temps, less jellies). Golden Eagle golf course is nice.

My friend just bought a place there. They are trying to renovate it, and he says it's been challenging finding anyone to do the work on it. The contractors and service people are pretty relaxed when deciding between working or going out on their boats.

We have a place near Kilmarnock and love it. We spend a lot of time on the water and love our time there. The pace is a good change from DC. There are enough good restaurants and places to explore. I can go to great restaurants here. I go there to relax, get out on the water, and watch the sunset with a cocktail. My kids love it there. We have friends come and visit all the time. And life is easy there.

It is true that it’s tough to find good help. But you can find some reliable people. We have done some work to our house and after a few misses, have good connections to people we like. Ask your realtor for some intros. And I wish the drive was a little shorter. It takes 3 hours most times. We have starlink for internet and it’s fine. Good enough to work effectively.

We also looked at the MD eastern shore. We found much better value in Kilmarnock. But you pay for it with a longer drive.
